In Part 1 of our Universal Studios Orlando series, I reviewed Universal's 6 On-Site Resorts.
Then in Part 2, I listed my 5 favorite Universal theme park rides.
In this 3rd and final installment, we're talking about Universal Studios CityWalk.
What is CityWalk?
If you’ve ever been to Walt Disney World or Disney Land, you know that both have their respective ‘downtown’ areas with shops, restaurants, entertainment, and more. These unticketed attractions are destinations in and of themselves. But did you know that Universal Studios Florida has its own ‘downtown’?
Like Disney Springs In Orlando and Downtown Disney in Anaheim, Universal Studios CityWalk is a venue where you’ll find restaurants, shops, bars, a cinema, night clubs, and other things. Overall, CityWalk is the hub of Universal Studios Orlando and is open until 2AM every day. Below is a brief intro to CityWalk along with some photos.
Entrances to CityWalk
Universal designed CityWalk so that you have to pass through it to get into either of the theme parks. There are 3 entrances to CityWalk, each with its own security checkpoint with metal detectors:
Attractions: Restaurants, Shops, etc.
In CityWalk, you'll find restaurant chains like Jimmy Buffett's well-known Margaritaville, The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., and the Hard Rock Cafe. In fact, the world's largest Hard Rock Cafe is in CityWalk.
But you'll also find some unique one-offs like the NBC Sports Grill & Brew, Bob Marley - A Tribute to Freedom, and the Hot Dog Hall of Fame.
There are also numerous shops selling a range of goods. In fact, there is a nice sized Universal Studios store in CityWalk with a surprising variety of merch, from superheroes to Despicable Me to Harry Potter.
In addition to shopping and eating, there's also entertainment in CityWalk. The internationally renowned Blue Man Group performs daily at their City Walk theater. If that's not your thing, you can pretend to be a rock star at CityWalk's Rising Star karaoke club, dance the night away at the groove nightclub, or just take in a movie at the 20-screen Universal Cinemark.
Even if you're not visiting Universal's theme parks, CityWalk is a great place to go if you're in Orlando and have a few hours to kill. It's only a few minutes from Seaworld, a short trip from Walt Disney World, and not too far from downtown Orlando.
